Jack

Freelancer

Hey Webflailers - it’s Jack.

2 days until I leave sunny Buenos Aires to re-start my life in cold, rainy England. I have this weird hankering to nest - buy a washing machine, rent my own flat and put plants everywhere. As part of this "sorting my shit out," process, I'm also thinking more and more about getting back in to freelancing but not just do "any project any time," like before which was an utter disaster because my portfolio was a mess (literally a quote from an agency owner that roasted my current portfolio)

Anyway, on to today's Roundup.

  • How many projects do you need in your portfolio?
  • Interview with Isabel Edwards
  • 3 Jobs for Webflowers
  • 3 Inspo Websites

Let's hop, skip and a-jump in to this cheeky chappy.

oh wait, we first need to thanks our sexy sponsor this week!

How many projects do you need in your portfolio?

This question seems to be a hot one right now with people working on their portfolio's before 2024 so I thought it would be healthy to explore. If you're anything like me, you're probably doing projects for friends and family and made up passion projects while also trying to attract clients by cold outreach. It can be insanely stressful trying to build your portfolio while also trying to earn your first freelancing money.

We'll cover:

1) What portfolio pieces do you make?

2) How many projects do you need in your portfolio?

ps. I was a moron and didn't put the new link last week so here's 10 best free resources to learn Webflow

pps. Best paid resources article coming!

Ep 67 | How To Find Your Place In The Webflow Community | With Isabel Edwards

Now, I know Isabel from a Webflow meetup that I organised in London at the start of this year, and then I met her again at Barcelona meetup organised by Tambien Studios. She is a good egg which you're about to hear!

The failures that we will talk about today are:

  1. Positioning and winning big deals
  2. Branding beyond Webflow
  3. Reduced scopes just to win the deals, sacrificing our process

3 Inspo Websites

The Little Grey Film

Love the flowing animation which feels calming and vibrant like the life these grey hounds have after having a life after racing.

Today In Design

Rather than the website being directly inspiring, this content is fascinating and inspiring.

Off Grid

Love the layout - punchy, easy to consume and the info ain't half bad either.
